Willem has been a sailmaker for 30 years and for the last 25 years he has owned and operated his own sail loft, which nowadays is Team Work Sailmakers dba Ullman Sails South Holland.
The loft in Brouwershaven is situated above the Selden Mast Factory and has a very strong reputation for sails and service in the southwest region of Holland. Willem and his team specialise in new offshore cruising yacht sails, racing sails and one design. Willem has a strong relationship with Jannie Reuvers and our new Ullman Sails South Africa team and has used the Cape Town loft for sail manufacturing for many years. The loft also does a large volume of service work including overnight repair service for regattas, surfsail repair and has an internal canvas department that manufactures covers, sprayhoods and dodgers to name a few items.
Willem has sailed in a J/27 for many years and won the Dutch Nationals ORC 3 class. At the moment he is focusing his sailing efforts in the Dragon class. He also dedicates some of his time to training local sailors, and in the winter serves as a race officer for the ORC race course (the biggest winter event in Western Europe].
When not at the loft, Willem is at home with with wife Liesbeth and 6 labrador retrievers!
The loft crew consists of five members:
Willem Garschagen - owner, new sails and repair service
Liesbeth Kodde – owner, manages the office
Richard de Jong – sail repair and new canvas works
Marian Anthonisse – new canvas work (mainsail and genoa covers, sprayhoods and all other kinds of canvas items)
Charlotte Heijstek – help in the office during her holidays from university
